Mateo Cevallos on Jakob Esterowitz
Jakob joined OSSA's coaching staff in June 2023 and will continue to help the academy through August 2024. As a freshman at Amherst, Jakob played #2 singles and #1 doubles where he went 14-3 in singles and reached a career-high UTR 12.17, the second highest UTR in Division III. Jakob entered the transfer portal after his freshman year and found a home at Boston University in Division I. In Spring of 2024, Jakob led the Terriers to their first-ever NCAA appearance by clinching the deciding match in the Patriot League Conference Championship finals.
As a junior player, Jakob played #1 singles for Wootton High School and won Maryland State titles in singles, doubles and as a team for the Patriots. In the summer of 2023, Jakob also scored a win over 2014 Wimbledon Doubles Champion Vasek Pospisil in a Men's Open Doubles event in Virginia.
"Jakob has been a part of the OSSA family for so many years as a player and through the rest of his family-- Ellie and Naomi. His interest and productivity as a player/coach increased so much the past year that I asked him to join us full time. As luck would have it, we will now be able to have a significant amount of time with Jakob joining our coaching staff as he takes this gap year during his collegiate career. Jakob is a phenomenal addition to our staff!"
